Mindful Mondays

Mindful Mondays

Our Club Leaders are Miss Craigie and Mrs Markley.
Our children love Mindful Mondays with Miss Craigie.

Did you know it isn't just a fantastic social club for our children but also an opportunity for children to practise mindfulness and continue our learning beyond the classroom?

This term, we have started to make snow globes (mindfulness jars) and turned to the night sky to think about star-gazing, learning about constellations. Children have painted canvases in preparation to make space art and have used night sky projectors to look closely at the stars and the planets. This will be continued into the first half of next term.

We have also been thinking about how unique we are as individuals and have started to explore our own strengths and weaknesses as well as thinking about how these make us feel. Next term, we shall begin journaling to reflect on this further. To help us with this, we have learned about other unique cultures and people including Native Americans and Aboriginal people of Australia. This has included talking about physical differences in their clothing and also looking at their traditions/lifestyles through art and craft and children have started to: make dreamcatcher’s, do basket weaving and complete dot art. We also took time out to reflect on National Holocaust Memorial Day and learned about the importance of Anne Frank and her journal.
This week at Mindful Mondays club, our children celebrated Chinese New Year!

The children not only learned about the traditions and celebrations behind the festival but also had the opportunity to design fans, make bookmarks and lanterns, have a go at origami, make dragons and take part in a Chinese Dragon Dance.

We love our Mindful Mondays club! Thank you so much to Miss Craigie for planning and running the club each week.

This week, children explored the wide range of activities on offer each week at club.

They loved the table football, pool and push hockey while others enjoyed playing board games together. A variety of art and craft was offered, as is each week, and some chose to create firework pictures using paint and scratch art. We finished off our session by decorating cakes and biscuits.

All the activities offered support the five ways to well-being strategy and promote positive mental health. Everyone had a great time.
